How OFF * BEAT was started?
OFF * BEAT is a pop/punk band that originated almost 2 years ago from a small South Texas town called Orange Grove. The band members; Danny Vasquez (18), vocals/bass; Andrew "Bunny" Acuna (18), guitar/vocals; and Victor Acuna, Jr. (21), drummer, known for their sidesplitting character and ambitious attitude, continue to journey their way towards the music world.
OFF * BEAT started out when Victor and brother Andrew Acuna were in their teens and still in High School. After being in the school band to understand music better, Victor and Andrew were introduced to punk rock music and decided to start a band. With Andrew on some strings and Victor with some sticks, they began to feel the love for music. Now having just two on staff, they needed a third to fulfill the bass guitar position. After much thought, Andrew's good friend Danny was exceedingly interested in being apart of the band. By means of some hard earned money from working, they managed to buy equipment and start covering and writing their own songs. Needing much practice and receiving a little help from a local musician in Sinton named Ben; they learned enough songs to play their first show on October 10, 2003, in Corpus Christi, TX. Being paid a great deal of recognition, they continued to play at local parties and shows in front of music lovers and great friends. As new high energetic songs were being written and created, OFF * BEAT kept playing shows and decided to record a 6 song demo at a local recording studio in January of 2004. OFF * BEAT then decided to sell their demo for $5.00 to help make money to play at out of town venues. As family members and friends around the community bought CD's, OFF * BEAT got their first out of town show in Lubbock, TX. From there they continued to book shows in McAllen, and several other venues in the Houston area.
OFF *BEAT has also been apart of some major shows such as; Bayfest '04 in Corpus Christi, Velocity Games '04 in Corpus Christi, and A Car Drifting Show '04 in Houston. OFF *BEAT has also played with some great bands such as; Dynamite Boy, 7 Dollar Sox, Straight Outta Junior High, and Next Best Thing. In the summer, OFF * BEAT really focused on arranging new songs only to record a full length CD in August of 2004. Shortly after the recording, "You Should Make Music" was released. Instead of sending the CD off the be pressed, they decided to make hundreds of copies and pass them out for FREE! What more would you want than to have every single person hear your music by getting a FREE CD. By doing this, OFF * BEAT has gained commendation throughout the state of Texas, and e-mails and phone calls have been pouring in for a copy of their full length CD.
After giving much thought about OFF * BEATs carrier, they decided to move to a much bigger city after graduating high school. In the summer of '05 OFF * BEAT moved to Dallas, TX. with family members. While still getting situated, in the month of August they managed to get there very first out of state show in Memphis, TN. With such great response and support OFF * BEAT still continues to write catchy songs and book shows anywhere they can.
